Ingredients
- 3 honey-crisp apples
- 3 tbsp butter
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- 1½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp all purpose flour
- 2 sheets thawed puff pastry
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp water
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp heavy cream
Instructions
- Dice apples into ½ inch cubes.
- In a pan over medium heat, melt butter and add in apples, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Cook for about 10 minutes until apples are soft. Add in all purpose flour and stir to thicken. Cook another 3-4 minutes. Set aside to cool.
- Roll thawed puff pastry into an 11-inch square and cut into 4 smaller squares.
- Whisk together egg and water to make an egg wash and set aside.
- Scoop cooled apple filling over half of puff pastry square and fold diagonally, leaving a ½ inch border. Brush the edges with egg wash and crimp with a fork to seal.
- Place pastries in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 400°
- Brush pastries with remaining egg wash and bake for 18-20 minutes.
- In a bowl, combine powdered sugar and heavy cream until smooth.
- Let turnovers cool slightly and drizzle with glaze.
